Sylvia Plath
Rip's Impressions
Her poetry makes her reputation, her suicide her fame. Part of the circle with Anne Sexton and Robert Lowell before she left for England, where she met and married the outstanding poet John Hughes. She won poetry awards even as she raised a young brood of children (posthumously the Pulitzer Prize), until her demons took over and she ended her own life at a young age.

Child
Your clear eye is the absolutely one beautiful thing.
I want to fill it with color and ducks,
The zoo of the new
Whose names you meditate--
April snow drop, Indian pipe,
Little
Stalk without winkle,
Pool in which images
Should be grand and classical
Not this troublous
Wringing of hands, this dark
Ceiling without a star.
